Autumn 2013 and Winter 2014
The leaves swirl in a brisk wind, clattering about. The russet-tinged hills are laced in early-morning mists. The tractor heavy with stacks of wood passes, delivering fuel for the winter to our neighbors . These are the sights and sounds of autumn in Ghivizzano. The Serchio Valley is gorgeous at this time of year. The sun at dawn and dusk has the melancholy tones of fall. The wonderful aroma rising in the air from fireplaces burning chestnut wood spreads through the valley. Restaurants have changed to their fall and winter menus and now serve wonderful farro (barley) soups, porcini mushroom topped pastas, and wild boar along with many other delicious pasta and meat dishes.
A few weeks ago the grapevines were loaded with heavy, purple clusters. Everyone awaited with anticipation the vendemmia, the gathering and pressing of the grapes into wonderful homemade wine. Fall marks the beginning of the sagre and feste throughout the villages in the Serchio Valley. Polenta, mushrooms, steak, and cheese are just a few foods to be celebrated at these festivals. And of course wine flows easily at each and every one.
At Casa La Pace, we had a wonderful summer of sunshine. A steady stream of guests stayed with us and enjoyed the Serchio Valley. During the summer, we made some important improvements to the house. We installed solar panels, capturing the sun's energy to produce electricity. While our guests won't notice a difference, we feel it is important to make Casa La Pace as sustainable as possible, reducing our "footprint" on the environment. Our guests noticed that we’ve installed air conditioning units in each guest bedroom. Each unit is independent and the temperature can be set for each individual room. These units will provide cool air in summer and warmth in winter. You can choose to snuggle under the covers or kick of the sheets.
This is a wonderful time to be in Ghivizzano and the Serchio Valley.

"Casa La Pace is a wonderful B&B experience. I say experience because it is so much more than a well fitted out, clean, comfortable place to stay with a delicious breakfast. The owners Rusty and Pepper make the experience and gave us a level of service and a personal touch that we have not encountered in 7+ years of travel. " ..ReviewedByMike, England
