Spring and Summer 2014
Spring arrived early in the Serchio Valley this year. The trees awoke from their winter slumber and the hills are again blanketed in green. The cherry, almond, and plum trees have bloomed and the fruit is ripening in the warm sunshine. The grape vines are draped with leaves and the tiny clusters of grapes have begun to appear; we are already looking forward to the fall harvest and the wonderful perfume of fermentation all around. Summer has begun with warm days and cool nights. The sunshine has been spectacular persuading Italians and visitors to head outdoors and enjoy the many fairs and festivals that are in abundance.
The Catholic Church seems to be in a period of renewal, too. Two popes were recently deemed saints and the Pope is still popular around the world. Of course, the church is steeped in tradition. The liturgical season translates into many religious festivals in spring and summer. Ghivizzano will celebrate its patron saints with a procession, as will Barga, Castelnuovo, and all of the villages throughout the valley.
Secular activities abound, of course, of ancient and modern pedigree. Borgo A Mozzano celebrated the Azalea. San Miniato honored the spring truffle, and there are more festivals of chocolate every year. Through the end of the summer, we can look forward to the Sagra del Neccio in Coreglia Antielminelli, the tortelli festival at Cardoso, and the Tripe festival here in Ghivizzano. (Don't worry if you don't like tripe – there are plenty of other dishes to choose from.)
Music has been a major source of pride in Italy. Each year, the calendar gets more crowded with musical events. There are so many exciting things to choose from, including the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, Opera Barga, and Barga Jazz. Lucca Summer Music each year attracts Italian and international artists to perform world-class music in the elegant historic piazza, Piazzale Napoleone. This year is no exception with a fantastic lineup that includes the Eagles, Stevie Wonder, and Elisa.
We are proud that Casa La Pace also attracts more guests than ever before. Our calendar is already dotted with reservations and we look forward to welcoming more guests than ever before from all corners of the globe. We look forward to sharing with our guests our little corner of Tuscany.

"Casa La Pace is a wonderful B&B experience. I say experience because it is so much more than a well fitted out, clean, comfortable place to stay with a delicious breakfast. The owners Rusty and Pepper make the experience and gave us a level of service and a personal touch that we have not encountered in 7+ years of travel. " ..ReviewedByMike, England
