2013 SEASON
It has been a long winter and the cities and towns of Tuscany have been slumbering. We look forward to the warmer days of spring. The trees will bud, the flowers will bloom, and Ghivizzano, Castelnuovo, and Lucca will reawaken. The warmer temperatures and sunnier days will be wonderful after an unusually-wet winter. The Serchio Valley in springtime, verdant and sunny, is truly spectacular. Guests have marveled and commented on the lush green hills, the tree-lined mountaintops, and the abundance of colorful flowers hanging on balconies.
Like most Italians, we can hardly wait for the arrival of Carnelvale, the first festival of 2013. The revelry invigorates everyone and raises hopes for the coming year. Viareggio and Marlia are close to Casa La Pace; there will be the exciting parades of floats and people in costume.
The Azalea Festival in Borgo a Mozzano in April is a real treat, too. The entire Medieval village is festooned with azaleas of blazing colors, artfully displayed. The bright pinks, reds, and whites of the blossoms make a startling contrast to the somber colors of the houses and gray stones of the churches and bell towers. Last year, we saw an entire bedroom made of azaleas and other greenery.
Here at Casa La Pace, we look forward with excitement to the arrival of our guests. We continue to make improvements on the house, to provide a more comfortable and inviting environment. And we continue to explore the Serchio Valley and the Garfagnana so that we can better direct our guests to the wonders of this area. There are so many lovely villages and wonderful restaurants awaiting discovery near Casa La Pace.
